PLUMBER WEBSITE DESIGN · UTAH

The 11pm search doesn't read your About page.

A water heater lets go in a Sandy basement and somebody is standing in an inch of water holding a phone with one bar. That call goes to whoever loads first, shows a tappable number without scrolling, and names their city. Everything else on the site is for the customer who is planning, not panicking — and those two need different pages.

01WHAT AN EMERGENCY SEARCH ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE

Four seconds, one thumb, no patience.

Plumbing is the one trade where demand never really has a season — pipes fail in July and January alike, and the freeze spike just stacks on top. What does change is the person. An emergency searcher decides in about four seconds: does this load, can I tap the number, do they cover my city, is this a real company. Design polish is far down that list. Meanwhile a homeowner pricing a repipe will visit four sites over two weeks and compare warranties. One site has to serve both without watering either down.

A contact form where the number should be

Nobody types their address while water is spreading across a finished basement. If the primary action on an emergency page is a form, the call went somewhere else.

"24/7" that rings to voicemail

Overpromising after-hours coverage burns the lead and earns the one-star review. A two-hour callback window stated plainly converts better than a claim you can't keep.

"Serving Utah" with no cities named

A homeowner in Tooele at 2am isn't going to guess. Named cities in readable text beat a decorative map image that Google can't parse and a panicked person can't interpret.

Utah's actual plumbing problems are missing

Hard water eats water heaters and seizes valves here, and the older neighborhoods still run galvanized supply and clay laterals. That's your highest-ticket work, and it's usually one bullet on a services page.

02WHAT YOU GET

What a plumbing site needs, specifically.

  • Click-to-call that never scrolls away

A real tel: link in the header and again in the hero, sized for a thumb rather than a mouse, on every repair and emergency page. Tracked, so you know which page produced the call.

  • Sub-second load on a weak signal

Emergency traffic is mobile traffic, often from a basement on one bar. Hand-coded and image-optimized, because a spinning loader in that moment is a job that went to the next listing.

  • Your trip fee, in writing

The diagnostic fee, whether it's waived when work is approved, and whether you quote flat-rate before starting. Homeowners who've been burned once look for this before anything else on the page.

  • A hard-water service page

Softener installation, tankless descaling and water heater flushing are planned purchases with their own searches — and along the Wasatch Front they're steady work most local sites bury in a footer list.

  • Depth on sewer and repipe work

Camera inspection, trenchless lining, whole-house repipe. Long consideration windows and big tickets, so those pages get financing options, warranty terms and a real explanation of what the job involves.

  • Frozen-pipe pages live before November

The first hard freeze compresses a quarter of burst-pipe demand into a few brutal days. Those pages ship in early fall and stay live year-round so they've earned their position by the time it matters.

  • Cities you actually drive to

One real page each for Sandy, Draper, West Jordan or wherever your radius genuinely reaches — with response times and housing stock, not a template with the name swapped. Five good ones beat twenty hollow ones.

  • Everything in your name

Code, domain, hosting, Google Business Profile and Search Console, all yours on final payment. 90-day bug warranty in writing, and no retainer required to keep your rankings.

04STRAIGHT ANSWERS

Questions people actually ask.

$3,000 to $9,000, fixed in writing before the build starts. The low end is a tight five-to-seven page site covering your core services, service area and contact path. The high end covers a full service-page set, several real city pages, booking integration and the depth that sewer and repipe work needs. The useful comparison isn't another agency's quote — it's your own average ticket.

Only if it's built for that moment. The person needs a page that renders in under two seconds on a phone, a tappable number visible without scrolling, an honest line about whether anyone answers overnight, and confirmation that you cover their city. Miss any one of those four and they hit back and call the next result. Most plumbing sites miss at least two.

I think so, and most plumbers resist it. Publishing the number costs you the callers who were going to argue about it on the phone anyway, and it wins the ones who've been surprised by a bill before and are now scanning for exactly that information. If you waive it when work is approved, say that in the same sentence — it reframes the fee as a deposit rather than a toll.

Yes — booking widgets and scheduling links from all three drop in, and form submissions can post into a CRM or dispatch queue by API. For emergency pages I usually argue against making booking the primary action, because urgent customers call. Booking earns its place on the planned work: water heater quotes, softener installs, scheduled drain cleaning.

Near-me is a proximity signal, not a phrase you can put on a page. Google resolves it from the searcher's location, your Google Business Profile and how clearly your site states where you work. What I build for it: a visible service-area section in text, city pages for towns you genuinely serve, LocalBusiness and Service schema, and internal links tying each service to each city. No position guarantee comes with that — but it's the part inside your control.

Maybe not. If your calendar is full and you aren't buying leads, the highest-return move is a properly filled-out Google Business Profile and a steady review habit, not a custom site — that combination alone puts most plumbers in the map pack. A cheap Squarespace page to back it up is a reasonable stopgap. Come back when you're paying for leads and want to stop.
